Samurai Swords
The Samurai, also referred to as bushi, were Japanese warriors. The word samurai comes from the Japanese word saburai, which means "to serve."
A Samurai warrior was allowed to use mutliple weapons, but his most favored and famous weapons were his swords. Traditionally, a Samurai carried two swords. In peace-time, he carried a Katana and a short sword, Wazikashi. During times of war, the Samurai carried a long sword called a Tachi, and a short sword known as a Tanto. Since a Samurai believed that his swords held his soul, they were naturally his most important and prized possessions. One option for today's Samurai is the Musashi Sword.
Each sword carried by a Samurai had to be tested. In order to test the sharpness of a sword, a Samurai was allowed to execute a criminal. Samurai led their lives based on the code of bushido, which means "the way of the warrior."
